To start and complete your accelerated free fall training course, you need to be
fairly fit and relatively healthy just to complete the training and to keep skydiving. Please remember that this site is dedicated to those people who want to learn how to become licenced skydivers through the accelerated free fall system and therefore we are specifically excluding discussions about Tandem skydiving which may well allow slightly different (less stringent) medical requirements, mostly because the Tandem Instructor ‘takes the strain’ .
The intention of this section is to give you an overview and not to be the final authority. We will do our best to monitor and update this article based on changes in the rules and regulations of the various national governing bodies of skydiving (notably the United States Parachute Association -USPA and the British Parachute Association - BPA). We take no responsibility for maintaining exact representations of their requirements and you, the reader should be aware that those governing bodies are the final authority in each case. Your own Accelerated Free Fall Instructor is licenced to answer your specific questions and will help you if your own requirements may fall short of the standard requirements. You’ll be surprised how much she can help and she can call on the support of their governing body (through their Instructor/Examiner/ Club Chief Instructor) to provide individual waivers or exceptions where these are warranted.
Finally, if you happen to find yourself considering an accelerated free fall course in a drop zone which is not affiliated of one of the major governing bodies, this section may well just save your life and allow you to decide for yourself whether you should maybe wait a little longer to do your Accelerated Free Fall course or perhaps travel a little further to a club which enjoys the necessary affiliations.
The main topics covered in this section are;
- Initial medical declaration or examination
- Age
- Weight/Height
- Drink, drugs and skydiving
- Maintaining fitness to jump in the ‘real world’
- Special conditions – Asthma
If you have any questions, please feel free to discuss them with your Accelerated Free Fall Instructor, or with us, perhaps on the forum (coming soon) or maybe with your chosen skydiving school/drop zone.
