I have a poster that reads:

"I don't care how many skydives you have. Until you've jumped out into pitch blackness at 850 feet wearing 95 pounds of weapons and equipment and 68 pounds of parachute, you just haven't lived."

Made my first jump in May of '81 and made my last on 07 DEC 93.

Could probably write my memoirs of both of those and the 27 in between. I've got a picture on my wall of my unit (MI Detachment, 1st Bn, 3rd SFG(A), of all of us at Sicily DZ at Ft. Bragg waiting to go aloft. Don't know that my knees would take it anymore, but it was fun while it lasted. It's like losing your virginity: you're no longer a LEG!

Note from Accel;

Hi Smitty

I reckon its true. Military parachuting has to be one of the most hazardous forms of delivery available.

Big respect to all Airborne Warriors goes out from this site!

Although this site is really about sports skydiving, I feel it it would be really interesting for readers to be able to compare and contrast with the military version. So please do share any military parachuting stories, and so we don't 'scare off' those who may be interested in making a sports skydive, I'd appreciate it if you (and any other AWs contributing here) would just mention in those posts that you are talking about Military Parachuting.

Thanks again and welcome.
