Blind man in fundraising skydive
Stuart Young's skydive raised money for his old school and college |
A Bridgwater man who is totally blind has taken part in a sponsored skydive to raise money for children with impaired vision.
Stuart Young, 22, a former student at the West of England School in Exeter jumped with three friends from Dunkeswell airfield.
"That was my first skydive, but it was absolutely brilliant," he said.
"I am so pleased I did it to raise money for such a worthy cause." The group has raised £700 for the school.
'Big smiles'
Mr Young who left the college in July jumped with Duncan Brown, 26, from St George in Bristol, Christine Bussey, 21, from Feniton, and Lisa Allen, 24, from Alphington, near Exeter.
Laura Sperring, Head of Fundraising for the school and college, paid tribute to what the group had achieved.
"It was great to watch - they all had such big smiles on their faces after they jumped.
"We are so grateful to all of them - without the support and generosity of people like Duncan, Stuart, Christine and Lisa we would not be able to offer our young people the specialist facilities and equipment that supports their independence."
The West of England School and College on the outskirts of Exeter has been educating children and young people with a visual impairment since 1838.
It provides specialist education such as Braille lessons in addition to the national curriculum.
